Each spouse owes support to the other as long as they are legally married. A court may require a spouse to contribute to the support of the other spouse. The amount
of spousal support is determined by considering the income of each spouse, their earning capacities, assets and needs.
Pennsylvania has statewide support guidelines which establish the appropriate amount of support. Income is the most important factor. The newest version of the guidelines took
effect January 31, 2006.
You may purchase a copy of the Pennsylvania Support Guidelines at the Domestic Relations Office in your county for a small fee. The Pennsylvania Support Guidelines are also
